About G Luedecke
Gary Luedecke is a 48-year veteran of the audio engineering and music business
as well as a photographer. His career has taken him all over the world mixing
sound and touring with bands including Mickey Gilley, The SOS Band, The Joe
Ely Band, The Flatlanders, Del Castillo, Alejandro Escovedo and Bob Schneider
among many others. He has recently retired as the City of Austin's Chief Audio
Engineer where he provided high-quality AV production and video conferencing
for the city.
Other interests include remote desert camping, hiking, backpacking,
flight sim pilot, surfing, scuba diving and snorkeling, cooking, antique hunting,
building stuff and watching old classic movies.
Born and raised in Galveston, TX. Gary was influenced by the music of the 50’s,
60’s and 70’s. Considering himself as a frustrated musician after trying to learn a
number of instruments and mastering none he concluded it was because of all
the time he spent at the beach surfing instead of sitting alone in his room
practicing his guitar (or piano, or trumpet, or bass guitar). His most valuable
education in music came from singing in the church choir at an early age. Life
works out for the best. At age 19 he got an opportunity to be the sound engineer
for a friend’s band (Danny Kristensen - Circus). That started it all. Things took off
from there and over the years Gary perfected his craft. Along with being in the
right place at the right time and really pursuing the passion of his life Gary ended
up traveling the world and working with some of the biggest names in the music
business. His career move provided the opportunity to work with people he never
would have been able to as a musician. Gary has retired from touring but still
does audio gigs from time to time.
40 something years after a career ending bass amplifier failure he picked up a
bass guitar again (with a new amplifier) and played with the Elgin based band The
Gypsy Drifters. They were the house band at The Owl Wine Bar and Home
Goods store in Elgin, TX. owned by Gary and his partner Molly Alexander. They
also own and operate another store in Elgin called G&M Drygoods.
